Faculty of Law

The Faculty of Law was established in 2015 following recommendations of expert studies on the state of legal education in the region. Our undergraduate degree program was duly accredited in February 2016. We recognize that we are operators in an increasingly crowded field of service providers. Therefore, we have determined from the outset that our mission must contribute to redefining quality standards in legal education in Eastern Africa.

Faculty of Agriculture

The Faculty of Agriculture (FOA) is headed by a Dean who is the administrative and academic head. Assisting the Dean on the day-to-day administrative matters, are two Assistant Registrars.The Faculty of Agriculture is the heir to Egerton College whose history dates back to 1939.However, the Faculty as it is today, came into being in August 1986, when Egerton College was, by an Act of Parliament, elevated to the status of University College, affiliated to the University of Nairobi for the purpose of awarding degrees.

Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS)

The faculty offers  programmes that  are designed meet local and global challenges and well support the realization of vision 2030.Among recent masters degree programmes introduced are Master of Arts in Criminology and Criminal Justice and Master of Arts in Security Management. The Faculty comprises of four departments namely: Department of Economics; Department of Languages, Literature and Linguistics; Department of Peace Security and Social Studies and; Department of Philosophy, History and Religion.

Faculty of Engineering and Technology (FET)

The Faculty of Engineering and Technology was established on 1st March 1997. It then consisted only of one department namely Agricultural Engineering, which hitherto was administered under Faculty of Agriculture. Since then, the Faculty has expended and has now four departments namely.Faculty of Engineering and Technology Agricultural Engineering (AGEN)Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEEN)Industrial and Energy Engineering (IEEN) Electrical and Control Engineering (ECEN)

Faculty of Environment and Resources Development

In the face of climate change, water scarcity, energy challenges, urban sprawl, pollution, over-consumption,  waste management, diminishing natural resources,  species extinction (rapid global environmental change) solutions to these issues require new approaches in meeting the needs of learners.  We are committed to preparing our students, both undergraduates, and postgraduates, for new and emerging environmental challenges that are characterized by complexity, uncertainty, interactivity and rapid change across space and time.

Faculty of Science (FOS)

The Faculty of science is as old as Egerton University as an institution of higher learning. Basic science courses namely chemistry, Physics, Botany, Zoology and mathematics were offered to diploma courses since the establishment of the Egerton college as an institution of higher learning in 1950s. In 1986, when Egerton college was elevated to a University college status and various programmes in agricultural science were introduced it was realized that there is need to describe courses to strengthen these programmes in basic science and more courses were introduced as pre-requisites.

Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Surgery (FVMS)

The main goal of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Surgery is to contribute to the livestock sector and facilitate it to achieve its full potential in poverty reduction through realization of a healthy and improved animal resource industry.Our faculty contributes to this through mounting of innovative, industry/farmer centered degree programs and research initiatives. 

Gender
Institute of Women, Gender and Development Studies

The Institute of Women, Gender and Development Studies was established in 1991 as the Centre for Women Studies and Gender Analysis to address the issues that interfered with the pursuit of academic excellence among female students in campus.The Centre was formally launched in May 1992 and placed under the authority of an advisory committee comprising representatives from students, the senate and various faculties.

School of Open and Distance Learning (SoDL)

The School of Distance Learning (SoDL) was established in 2002. The mandate of SoDL is to develop, co-ordinate, promote and manage all open and distance learning programmes of Egerton University. Its Vision is to be a national and regional centre of excellence and choice for open and distance learning programmes. SoDL is headed by a Director who is answerable to the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic Affairs and has four departments each headed by a coordinator.
