Rationale

Manufacturing & Industrial Design

There is a great demand for mechanical engineers with an emphasis on manufacturing in Kenya. Most Kenyan government policies including vision 2030 put more importance in the manufacturing sector which relies on specialists in this field. These specialists should be equipped with the state-of-the-art skills, knowledge and work attitude necessary in accomplishing product design, manufacture and maintenance of machines / plants, and in addition, ability to provide needed marketing and leadership in industries.

Bachelor of Science in mechanical and manufacturing engineering programme aims to train highly skilled graduates who are technological leaders of industries and that actively engage in engineering training, research and innovations

Admission Requirements

Institutional Selection Criteria

All candidates admitted to the degree programme of Bachelor of Science in Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering must satisfy the minimum University entrance requirements as will be determined from time to time by the Kenya Universities and College Central Placement Service (KUCCPS).

In addition, those holding qualifications equivalent to the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) awarded by Institutions recognized by Egerton University Senate may also be considered for admission. The candidate must have at least a C+ or its equivalent in the following cluster subjects: Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and English or Kiswahili

Alternative Entry Pathways: Admission may also be offered to holders of Diploma certificates in related Engineering disciplines examined by the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) or by Institutions recognized by Egerton University Senate

Accumulation & Policy Guidelines

Credit accumulation

Regulations on credit accumulations including possible pathways, shall be in line with provisions of Universities regulations, Universities standards and guildelines and national trends.

Credit Transfer

Credit transfer shall be done in adherence to the Egerton University Statute 37 (3) of 2023.

Examination Governance

Examination regulations for the program shall be conducted in accordance with Egerton University Statutes of 2023 article 37 (7). Examinations shall be held at the end of each semester of each year of study in accordance with the university examination regulations,

The grading of examination for the program shall be conducted in accordance with Egerton University Statutes of 2023 article 37 (8).

Graduation Baseline

To graduate, a student shall be required to take and pass ALL prescribed courses within the stipulated period. The total C.Fs a student should take for all scheduled courses within the stipulated period is 252.5.
