At our department, we offer a range of undergraduate and postgraduate programs, including Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry and Biomedical Science and Technology courses.
The Department of Biological Sciences is one of oldest departments in the University having been started in 1952 when Egerton College introduced formal diploma courses. The Department was started to offer basic life science courses that supported the professional diploma courses which were started at different periods viz. Agriculture (1952), Animal husbandry (1962), Dairy technology and Forestry (1963) Range Management (1965), Agricultural Education and Extension (1966), Farm Management (1969), Food Science and Technology (1967), Agriculture and Home Economics (1970), Horticulture and Animal Health (1978)
The Department of Computer Science was established in 1990 in the faculty of science and it is among the first departments in Kenya to offer a BSc Degree in computer science. with the objective of imparting quality education in the domain of Computer Science and Applications. With rapidly evolving technology and the continuous need for innovation, the department has always produced quality professionals, holding important positions in leading Information Technology Industries in Kenya and abroad.
The Department of Mathematics is housed in the Physical Sciences Complex, Njoro Main campus of Egerton University. The Department now has two undergraduate degree programs namely Bachelor of Science (Statistics) and Bachelor of Science (Actuarial Sciences). The Department continues to service most other programs, in particular the Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Education (Science), Bachelor of Education (Arts), and Engineering programs just to mention a few. Further, the Department offers specialized training in Pure Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, and Actuarial Science.
The Department of Chemistry has qualified academic and technical staff that carry out high quality teaching and research.The staff are involved in research that is aimed at contributing to Kenya vision 2030 and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).The department continues to be in a period of rapid growth in student and teaching facilities.The objectives of the Department are to provide a conducive training environment for undergraduate and post graduate students. It hosts an ultra-modern physical sciences block with some state-of-the-art facilities for teaching and research.
Since its inception, the department of physics has grown into a strong unit occupying an ultra-modern building in the Physical Sciences Complex. Its well-equipped basic and research laboratories and a dedicated team of highly qualified technical and academic staff enables it to offer quality education and training to an increasing number of students of Physics and of other departments in the university. Our undergraduate Physics students undergo a unique and vibrant industrial attachment programme, which allows them to apply acquired knowledge and skills and connects them to the world of work and potential employers.
