  3. Pomp and Colour as Teddy Odhiambo is Declared EUSA Chairman at Egerton University

The electoral process was administered by the Egerton Students Elections Commission (ESEC) under the chairmanship of Prof. Julius Kipkemboi. The commission supervised the voting exercise with the support of university administrators and election observers to ensure transparency, credibility, and order throughout the processAmong the university officials present were Dr. Japhet Muthamia, Dean of Students; Fr. Dr. Gerishon Kuria, Assistant Dean of Students; Dr. Justine Omwoyo; and Mr. Talia Wekesa. Their presence underscored the university’s commitment to strengthening democratic student governance and ensuring that the election process was conducted fairly. Before voting commenced, Prof. Kipkemboi assured observers and participants that the Smartkura system had undergone rigorous verification to confirm that it was secure and fully functional. Once the system checks were completed, the digital voting exercise began smoothly.A total of 33 accredited voters took part in the election and successfully cast their ballots. Election officials also assisted voters who encountered minor technical challenges to ensure that every valid vote was recorded.

Teddy Odhiambo’s victory represents a remarkable political journey within the university’s student leadership structures. He previously served as a Congressman in the EUSA congress, gaining experience in student governance before first contesting for the chairmanship last year. In that earlier race, he was defeated by John Mutuma, but remained active in student affairs and continued engaging with the student leadership framework. This year’s victory therefore marks a significant comeback for Odhiambo, reflecting resilience and growing confidence from the student electorate. When the results were announced, students gathered in jubilation, singing and cheering in a colourful celebration that captured the vibrant spirit of campus democracy.
