About FERD
Faculty of Environment and Resources Development (FERD) is comprised of three departments, the Department of Environmental Science, Department of Geography and Department of Natural Resources. In the Faculty of Environment and Resource Development, we are committed to being student-centered, creating learning environments that are challenging, collaborative, interdisciplinary, and skill-based. Our goal is to educate and train the next generation of professional leaders in the domains of environmental science and natural resource management.
Department of Natural Resources
The scale of disciplinary expertise in the Department of Natural Resources at Egerton University —from hospitality and social sciences to conservation genetics and applied ecology—creates a stimulating multi-disciplinary atmosphere for students, staff, faculty and visiting scholars and makes us unique among peer institutions of higher learning in Kenya. The mission of the department is to generate and disseminate significant Natural Resources knowledge and offer exemplary education to our students so that they can contribute to national and global development

Welcome to the Department of Environmental Science. As the Chairman of the Department, I am pleased to provide you with a technical overview of our multi-disciplinary and research-driven department, aligning with the current global environmental focus. Established in 1997, our department remains dedicated to addressing environmental challenges that transcend both local and global landscapes.
Department of Geography
The department was established in the year 1989, three years after Egerton became a full-fledged University. The Department’s vision is to be a world class centre of excellence in geographical teaching and research. The core function include: teaching and evaluation of students; research, community outreach and publication; and student advising. The department is committed to offering the highest quality services and products to our customers in a professional way and with integrity.
