Information Systems & Specializations

Library and information Science is an interdisciplinary field that combines aspects of computer science, library science, and information management. It is concerned with recordable information and knowledge, and the technologies and related services that facilitate their management and use. The Bachelor of Library and Information Science degree programme is a flexible course designed for students who require further exposure to various areas of Library and information Science.

Students begin their studies in three subject areas and eventually narrow to one speciality during Year 3 Semester 2 of the course. The areas of specialization include:

  • Library and Knowledge Management
  • Records and Archives Management
  • Information Communication and Technology

The main goal of this programme is to equip the students with knowledge, skills and professional attitudes for creation, organization, storage, retrieval and dissemination of information in different types of information institutions.

Admissions

Entry Requirements & Criteria

Candidates must meet the minimum Egerton University entry requirements for admission as spelt out in the Egerton University Statute 37(2) (c) of 2023 together with those in the Programme specific requirements and Faculty.

  • Diploma Track (Credit or higher): Eligible for direct admission if the qualification is in Information Studies from a recognized institution.
  • Diploma Track (Pass): Eligible for admission if accompanied by at least a two-year working experience in Information Studies from a recognized institution.

Examination Regulations

Examinations for this programme will comply with the Egerton University Statute 37 (7), of 2023 and the Egerton University Procedure for Teaching and Examinations (EU/AA/OP/07).

Grading System

The grading of examination for this programme shall be conducted in accordance with Egerton University Statues 37 (8) (e)(i) (f), of 2023.

Graduation Requirements

To graduate a student shall be required to take and pass at least 150.5 CFs which, at least 9 CFs will be University Common Core Courses within the stipulated period in accordance with Egerton University Statute 37 (6) (a) (b) (c), of 2023.
