Humanistic & Social Science Knowledge

The Bachelor of Arts degree in sociology and religious studies offers a combination of humanistic and social science knowledge required in human attitude formation for personal management and policy development in society. It provides managerial and analytical skills to graduates in handling social issues such as ethics, child labour, family, nepotism, tribalism, human rights, religious formations, religious fundamentalism and unemployment, among others. It equips students with skills in handling the challenges of dialogue between faith and culture, Religion and society, the kingdom of God and temporal realities. The programme thus offers a wide range of opportunities to graduates in the job market, especially in religious and non-religious organizations, and governmental and nongovernmental organizations dealing with human welfare.

Entry Requirements & Criteria

Admission into this programme will be in accordance with the Egerton University Statutes 37 (2) (c), and (8), of 2023.

  • Applicants who hold Diploma from Egerton University with a “Credit” or higher or an equivalent qualification from a recognised institution in the relevant field of specialisation acceptable to the Senate, and have (KCSE) with a mean grade of C- (C-Minus) may be considered.
  • Those with a “pass” diploma and (KCSE) with a mean grade of C- (C-Minus), shall be considered if they have at least two years relevant experience after graduation.
  • Applicants in this category may be required to meet other additional entry requirements set forth by the departments.

Credit Transfers

Accumulation & Policy Guidelines

Regulations on credit accumulation, including possible pathways, shall align with the provisions of the Universities Regulations, Universities Standards and Guidelines, and general national trends. Specifically, credit accumulation in this programme will be guided by Egerton University statutes 37 (3), of 2023.

Examinations for this programme will comply with the Egerton University Statute 37 (7), of 2023 and the Egerton University Procedure for Teaching and Examinations (EU/AA/OP/07).

Grading System

The grading of examination for this programme shall be conducted in accordance with Egerton University Statues 37 (8) (e)(i) (f), of 2023.

Graduation Baseline

To graduate a student shall be required to take and pass at least 150.5 CFs which, at least 9 CFs will be University Common Core Courses within the stipulated period in accordance with Egerton University Statute 37 (6) (a) (b) (c), of 2023.
